    Double Album 2023
"A Recording Of Myself In A Room Of My Own"
    +
    "Seeing With Music In Nature"

Scottish DIY musician, composer and producer Siobhan Wilson releases new double album on May 31st, 2023.

Themes of solitude, self-discovery and reflection merge with rural serenity. The self-produced work only serves to underline Siobhan’s growing status as an independent auteur and inspirational force on the DIY scene.

The first half of the album is titled “Recording Of Myself In A Room Of My Own”: a collection of new acoustic folk music and features a number of collaborations, namely with French composer Clementine March (tracks “Quand La Vie Fait Mal” and “Un Ange Passe”) and Mercury Prize nominee Kathryn Williams (tracks “Sleeping Dogs” and “Good Company”).

The title combines the names of works by Virginia Wolfe (“A Room Of One’s Own”) and Walt Whitman (“Song Of Myself”), nodding to the process of self-discovery that took place when Siobhan left the city and returned to the serenity and relative isolation of the Scottish Borders, where she has worked, written, recorded and thrived for the last two years.

The collection includes a uniquely crafted arrangement of Scotland’s oldest surviving sea prayer sung in Norn and Shetlandic dialect, “Unst Boat Song”, recently released as a single, alongside “Quand La Vie Fait Mal” for which Siobhan appeared on BBC Radio 6 and live on BBC Radio Scotland amongst others already this year.

The second album of this collection, “Seeing With Music In Nature” - as the name suggests - continues down this line of environmental thought, with a collection of instrumental works, each inspired by a different region within Scotland’s lush and often dramatic landscape; from Tobermory, to Morayshire, to the Scottish Borders.

Regarding the reasons behind the seclusion and the artistic exploration it led to, Siobhan has commented “Ultimately, I had to know what it was like to live alone in the countryside far away from the distractions of the city and independently of others to be able to truly concentrate on my work, which - until this point in my life - I have never been able to do.”
“Since moving into the countryside I’ve felt a sense of belonging to the world on a deeper level by spending so much time examining nature on a daily basis. I’m very sensitive to sound and so I grow very attached to quiet places - quiet enough to hear nature’s murmur. For me, music captures the emotion of what I want to say in a way that I can’t really do with words alone so the instrumental tracks are like little expressionist sketches of what surrounds me.”

Siobhan also credits her pioneering Patreon funding model and loyal army of patrons for the success of the project, which relied on input from those same trusted fans who feel closest to her work.

“I consulted with my Patreon fanspace to choose photos and songs. I chose to release this double album physically as a hand painted gatefold limited edition. Each double album holds the same design but is uniquely crafted and where possible, using recycled products from independent sellers. My Patreon fanspace enables me to do this. They pretty much kept me going over the pandemic and I am endlessly grateful”

Siobhan will also be the singing voice of Planet of Lana, a hotly tipped independent cinematic puzzle adventure game coming to Xbox & PC on May 23rd 2023.

Recording Of Myself In A Room Of My Own is
Dedicated with huge thanks to members on my fanspace

With very special thanks to mentor Evan Hamilton

Biggest thanks to McTavish
You might hear my dog McTavish running around or sniffing the microphone. I just let him sit in the studio with me the whole time I was recording because I love him so much, and it was nice to have a fur baby friend by my side while recording alone. He’s therefore a band member and has contributed substantially to this record. He’s a very patient dog

Huge thanks to Creative Scotland for supporting the writing phase of this new music
